Canvas@Illinois, Exporting the gradebook

Learn how you can export a CSV copy of your gradebook.

You can download a CSV of your entire gradebook or specific columns/rows. Select one of the options below to expand the instructions.

Reminder: If you save copies of these files, only use resources that are approved to store FERPA data, such as Box or OneDrive. For more information about approved cloud-based storage options, see the following article: Cloud, Cloud-based storage solutions for campus

Export entire gradebook

  1. In your course navigation menu, select Grades.

  2. In the top right corner, select Export

  3. From the drop down menu, select Export Entire Gradebook.

  4. You will see a message in a green alert box indicating an export has started. If you have a large gradebook, this may take a few minutes. Once completed, you'll see another message stating the gradebook export is complete.

  5. To access your CSV file, navigate to your browser's downloads button or your computer's Downloads folder.

Export only select columns

  1. In your course navigation menu, select Grades.

  2. Update your current view of the gradebook by using the Apply Filters button or the text fields (Student Names or Assignment Names) to search and select the students and/or assignments to download. In the example screenshot below, the Apply Filters button was used to select one section in the course site.

  3. In the top right corner, select Export.

  4. From the drop down menu, select Export Current Gradebook View.

  5. You will see a message in a green alert box indicating an export has started. If you have a large gradebook, this may take a few minutes. Once completed, you'll see another message stating the gradebook export is complete.

  6. To access your CSV file, navigate to your browser's downloads button or your computer's Downloads folder.
