Microsoft Teams is available for all campus customers eligible for Office 365.

About Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration platform that supports:
  • Threaded, persistent conversations
  • Instant messaging
  • File storage
  • Audio and video conferencing
Teams is also a hub for integrating with other applications such as Trello, GitHub, Microsoft Planner, Forms, PowerApps, and many other applications.

Who Can Use Teams

Microsoft Teams has been enabled for anyone eligible for Office 365, including all active University faculty, staff, and students.

Getting Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams has applications for Window, MacOS, Linux, iOS, and Android.  Teams also works in web browsers.
Teams for MacOS, Windows, and Linux can be downloaded from https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads.  You can download Teams for iOS from the Apple App Store and for Android from the Google Play Store.
The web version of Teams is supported on the Microsoft Edge (chromium-based, current  and 2 previous versions), Apple Safari 13.1+, and Google Chrome (current and 2 previous versions).  This can be accessed from the Office 365 portal by logging into https://office365.com and clicking on the Teams icon or at https://teams.microsoft.com.

Learning Microsoft Teams

There is a Help button in the web, Windows, and MacOS versions of Teams. It is in the lower left-hand corner of the window. Here you will find links to help topics and training.

3rd Party and Additional Services

Teams is compatible with a vast catalog of paid and free applications authored by 3rd party providers. These are located within Teams by clicking on the ellipsis icon (...) and searching for an Application.   
All Free and Paid Applications are optional. Individuals are responsible for any licenses or fees related to the use of these applications.  The Technology Services Help Desk (consult@illinois.edu) will attempt to provide general assistance for Microsoft Teams optional applications. Specific questions about the functionality of these applications should be directed to the application provider.
