SPSS Licensing & Annual Renewal Guide

This guide covers how to purchase, renew, and access IBM SPSS Statistics for administrative, teaching, or research use within the College of Applied Health Sciences.

Annual Renewal & Important Dates

SPSS requires an annual license renewal through the University WebStore.

Annual License Expiration: August 1st

New License Availability: Updated licenses for the upcoming academic year are typically available via the WebStore by mid-July.

Spring Discounts: If you purchase a license during the Spring semester, pricing is automatically pro-rated.

Why does SPSS say my license expires on July 1st?

  • Inside the SPSS software, you may see a notification stating your license expires on July 1st. Don't panic! The university has an official one-month grace period that extends full software functionality through August 1st.

How to Purchase or Renew Your License

To request a new SPSS license or renew an existing one for your university device:

Contact AHS IT Support with your request and include:

  • The CFOP to be charged

  • The NetID(s) of the user(s) who need access

Choose Your Access Method

When submitting your request, let us know how you plan to use SPSS:

Option 1: Local Installation (Recommended for primary computers)

We can install SPSS directly onto your university-owned computer.

Need an older version?

  • If your research or coursework requires a previous version of SPSS rather than the latest 2025-2026 release, please mention this in your request

macOS Compatibility Disclaimer (SPSS AMOS)

  • IBM SPSS AMOS is Windows-only. AMOS cannot be installed or run natively on macOS. If you are a Mac user who requires AMOS, you will need to access it via Illinois AnyWare (Option 2) or use a Windows virtual machine environment

Option 2: Remote Access via Citrix Illinois AnyWare (Best for flexibility & Mac users needing AMOS)

  • Note: A license is not required to access SPSS via Illinois AnyWare. Read more about software available through Illinois AnyWare.

Using Illinois AnyWare, you can access SPSS remotely from almost any device without installing the full software locally.

Remote access is provided through Technology Services’ Illinois AnyWare Virtual Lab. This is the recommended route for Mac users who need access to SPSS AMOS. Detailed setup and login instructions can be found on the UIUC WebStore Installation Instruction Index Page.
