ATLAS FormBuilder - List Question Types Explained

This document explains the difference between the types of list questions in ATLAS FormBuilder in order to determine which type your form can best utilize.

When building a form, it is important to ask which question type will best fit the needs of the form being created.  There are several options...

In the list above, there are four question types that display multiple possible answers.

1.) Drop-Down

  • Allows for only one answer to be selected from a list of possible answers
  • First entry in the list needs to be a special character to help ensure a valid selection is made (e.g. --)
  • List order is modifiable
  • Useful for long lists to keep your form brief and clean

For more specific directions on adding a drop-down question, check out ATLAS FormBuilder - How to Create Drop-down Questions.

2.) Select List

  • Allows for multiple selections from the list of possible answers
  • First entry in the list needs to be a special character to help ensure a valid selection is made (e.g. --)
  • List order is modifiable
  • Useful for viewing all your options at once and prioritizing responses
  • Make sure to explain how to select more than one response if you want the responder to be able to select multiple options

For more specific directions on adding a select list question, check out FormBuilder - How to Create Select List Questions.

3.) Radio Buttons

  • Allows for only one selection from a list of possible answers
  • All possible entries are visible on the form at all times
  • List order is modifiable
  • Useful for seeing all the options at once and designating a clear answer

4.) Check Boxes

  • Allows for multiple selection from the list of possible answers
  • All possible entries are visible on the form at all times
  • List order is modifiable
  • Useful for marking multiple options

For more specific directions on adding a check box question, check out FormBuilder - How to Create Checkbox Questions.

Below, each question type is displayed the way it is shown in the final form.
