Wiki, What are the content retention guidelines for Wiki spaces?

There are three main categories of content cleanup cycles for the Illinois Wiki. These cycles will be scheduled and communicated to space administrators via email before a purge process begins. There will also be a posting to the main Wiki dashboard to communicate important announcements and updates.

The most recent purge cycle was performed in Fall 2019.

1.       Trash Purge

When content is deleted by a user it is moved to the Trash.

A space administrator can restore the content by following the instructions found here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf60/delete-or-restore-a-page-852731427.html

Once trash is purged from a space, it cannot be restored.

2.       One Page, One Year

This category encompasses spaces with only one page and have not been edited for more than a calendar year. These spaces are often created in error, information is moved to an existing team space, or another collaboration platform was found that better suited the information being gathered.

These pages are copied from production, purged from the Illinois Wiki, and retained for six months in an archive before being permanently deleted.

Restoration during this six month timeframe can be achieved by contacting the Service Desk at consult@illinois.edu and having a ticket sent to the Illinois Wiki Service Administrators.

3.       Seven years stale

These spaces contain more than a single piece of content and have had no edit on any sub-page for more than seven years. The amount of content can vary widely from only a few sub-pages to thousands of pages.

These pages are copied from production, purged from the Illinois Wiki, and retained for one year in an archive before being permanently deleted.

Restoration during this twelve month timeframe can be achieved by contacting the Service Desk at consult@illinois.edu and having a ticket sent to the Illinois Wiki Service Administrators.
