PIE, Themes, Block I logo

On August 14 the university adopted the Block I as the single logo. Illinois-branded Publish themes will be updated to use this logo, and customers may select among the approved logo colorings using the customizer.

The Block I Logo

On August 14, the chancellor announced a return to the "Block I" as the single logo for the University.

Publish and the Block I

Publish.Illinois.Edu supplies several Illinois-branded themes that use the I-Mark logo. On October 10, these themes will be updated to use the new Block I logo. For customers using Illinois-branded themes, no action will be required. Your Publish website will begin displaying the new Block I logo on the morning of October 10.

Affected Themes

If you do not know what theme your Publish.Illinois.Edu website uses, you can find out by visiting your site dashboard and choosing "Appearance->Themes." Your active theme will be shown first and will be labeled "Active:ThemeName."  The following Publish.Illinois.Edu themes are Illinois-Branded and will be updated to display the new Block-I logo:
  • Illinois-Codium
  • Illinois-Paragrams
  • Illinois-Twentyfifteen
  • Illinois-Twentyfourteen
  • Illinois-Twentyeleven

Logo Coloring

A default color scheme has been selected for each theme. Some WordPress themes allow site owners to customize the background color of the theme, and other site owners may have chosen to alter the color scheme using custom CSS. If the background color has been altered by either method, the default logo choice might not display properly. You have the option to change the color scheme and modify colors of individual elements to suit your site. To do so:
  1. log in to your dashboard and choose "Appearance->Customize"
  2. Select the "Colors" tab
  3. Choose the color scheme you wish to preview
  4. Make any desired changes to individual elements
  5. click "Save & Publish"
  6. Visit your website to verify the logo you selected appears correctly.

Other Themes

If you are using a theme other than the Illinois-branded themes listed above, your site will not be automatically updated to use the new Block I logo. If your theme was custom-developed, speak with your developer to learn about your options for adopting the new Block I logo. If you are currently using an unbranded theme and wish to incorporate Illinois branding, you may choose one of the branded themes listed above or you may upload the Block I logo manually if your theme provides that option.  The approved logo can be downloaded from brand.illinois.edu.
