FACT (Functional Accessibility Checking Tool) is a Moodle block to help you find and fix accessibility issues in your Moodle content. Please reach out to atlas-tlt@illinois.edu with any questions or feedback.
Adding the Block
- Navigate to the main page of your Moodle course.
- If you are using individual activity LTIs, open the course index on the left-hand side of the page, and click Course Main Page.

- If you are using individual activity LTIs, open the course index on the left-hand side of the page, and click Course Main Page.
- With Edit mode on, open the block drawer on the right-hand side of the page.

- Click Add a block.

- Select FACT Accessibility Tool from the list.

Viewing the Course Report
- Once the block is installed, click Scan Now. The scan may take some time to run, depending on the size of your course. Don't close the tab or make any edits to your course site while the scan is running.

- Once the scan has finished, click on the button titled Issue Report.

- In the Issue Report, you will see the full list of errors from every activity in your course. You can sort by Severity (see definitions below), Issue Name, Issue Type, Course Section, Activity Type, and Activity Name.

- Click into an activity to remediate content. If you click from the block or the Issue Report, you will be taken straight to edit the activity. If you click on the activity from its normal location on the course main page, you will need to navigate to the part of the activity which you want to edit.
Using the Editor Sidebar

- The list is automatically sorted by position in the text box. You can also sort by severity or issue type.
- Clicking an error in the sidebar will bring you to the error in the text box. Similarly, clicking an issue highlighted in the text box will bring you to the error in the sidebar.
- You can always fix the issue from the sidebar without going into the text box itself, which saves you some clicks. Depending on the type of error, they can be resolved by either clicking a button or providing some text.
- Autofix is available for some simple errors, such as outdated italics tags and skipped headings. Click the Autofix button at the top to fix those all at once.
- Click on details in each error box to view more information about the error and how to fix it.
- Click the settings wheel at the top of the block to customize user preferences.
- IMPORTANT: Once you have made changes, you must scroll down and click Save, or your changes will not take effect.
