LAS Framework - Featured Images

This page will show you how to add and edit content for the image carousel at the top of your main page
Featured images are shown at the top of most LAS department websites and are an excellent way for you to feature several pieces of content in the prime real estate near the top of your homepage.  Throughout these instructions, we'll be referring to the sample image below as we describe each of the fields you'll need to fill out.  An annotated version with field information is at the bottom of this article.

Adding a New Featured Image

You must be logged in as an Editor role or higher to add Featured Images
  1. Under the Manage menu at the top of your page, click the Content option
  2. Click the blue + Add Content button just below the content heading
  3. Click Featured Image on the list of available Content Types.
  4. Complete the following fields
    1. Title  - This will be the large label that appear at the top of the orange or blue box on the image
    2. Choose FileChoose an image to upload for the featured image from your machine.  In ideal image size is 2000 pixels wide by 1000 pixels high.
    3. DescriptionThis will be the text that shows just below the title.
    4. URLThe page that you want users to go to when they click the button on the image.
    5. Link textThe text that will appear on the button 
    6. Featured Image Box ColorChoose the background color for the text box 
    7. Featured Image Box Location – Choose whether your box will be centered on the bottom of the image, or positioned on the left or right side of the image.
    8. Featured Image Sort PriorityWhat order the image will appear in the rotation.  Higher numbers mean to appears earlier in the rotation To make sure an image is always first, choose 10.
    9. Effective Start Date/ Effective End Date Enter the date range you want your featured image to appear (optional, default is today with no end date)
    10. Click the Save button
    11. It may take up to 30 seconds for the blurred background image to appear.

Editing an Existing Featured Image

You must be logged in as an Editor role or higher to edit Featured Images
  1. Under the Manage menu at the top of your page, click the Content option
  2. Set the Content Type filter to be Featured Image and click the Filter button.  This will limit the options to only Featured Images
  3. Select the Featured Image you want to edit and click the Edit button in the far right column
  4. Make changes to any other fields you need to update
  5. To replace the image, you must first remove the current one by clicking the Remove button and then using the Choose File button to select a new image.  You will need to give a new Alternative Text entry for the new image.
  6. To remove the entry entirely, scroll to the bottom of the form and click the Delete button
  7. If you replace an image, it may take up to 30 seconds for the new blurred background image to appear.Still have questions?
