Illinois App, Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting steps for the Rokwire Illinois App.

Unable to reach login screen and receive a Shibboleth error screen

If the app attempts to take you to a login screen but instead you receive a Shibboleth error screen with an "IdP error: unknown" error message, try these steps:

  1. Clear the cache and delete the data from the app
  2. Make sure your default browser does not have cookies blocked
  3. Change your default browser to a different one

Clearing cache and data

Clearing the Illinois app's cache and deleting the app data is a relatively easy way to troubleshoot many authentication issues.   Doing this is non-destructive and you will not lose any personal data.

For Android phones, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings of your phone.

  2. Open the Apps section.

  3. Tap the See all apps heading to see a list of your installed apps.

  4. Tap the Illinois app.

  5. Tap the Storage & cache button.

  6. Tap the Clear cache button.

  7. Tap the Clear data button.

On an iPhone, simply uninstall the app then reinstall it.

Changing your default browser

Changing your default browser on your phone can assist with issues logging in on Android phones.  Here are some steps to help assist with that problem.

  1. Go into Settings then Apps
  2. Tap on Chrome (or Firefox if you prefer)
  3. Tap "Set as Default"
  4. Go into Settings then Apps
  5. Tap on Chrome (or Firefox if you prefer)
  6. Tap "Set as Default"

In addition, if you have any pop-up blocker apps, they can be uninstalled.

Illini ID only shows UIN and not a photo, name, etc.

Illini ID requires an active, non-expired i-card. The app cannot retrieve your details if your i-card is expired. Please contact the Urbana ID Center to renew your i-card.

In the Illinois app, the wallet is available at the bottom of the home screen.

Your wallet gives you access to:

  • Housing meal plan
  • Illini Cash
  • MTD bus pass
  • Illini ID
  • and other features not available to the general public.

Please note: the Illinois app is no longer used for building access purposes.

If you do not see the wallet button on the home screen, double-check these requirements.

To display your wallet, you must:

  • Run the updated version of the Illinois app
  • Set your profile to University Student or University Employee (Browse > Profile > My Profile > Who You Are)
  • Sign into the app with your NetID
  • Set your Privacy to Level 4 or higher. (Browse > Profile > My Profile > My App Privacy Settings > Manage and Understand Your Privacy)

After I complete two-factor authentication (2FA/Duo) when I log in to the Illinois app, it brings me back to login screen.

If you experience this "looping" issue when logging in, make sure your Illinois app is updated to the latest version. If you have the most current version, please try a different browser from the app store. You will need to go into settings and make the new browser your default (you should only have to do this once and can switch back).

This should remediate this particular login issue.
