Kaltura, Update embedded videos to use the new player!

All instructors and publishers of Kaltura videos should delete the links anywhere and recreate them so embedded videos so that they play with the new player.

In early January we updated the program through which all media is presented and viewed, whether in mediaspace.illinois.edu, Canvas, or embedded on any other Website.  We are replacing our old program, Player 2, with Player 7.

All media viewed in mediaspace now use the new player.  Also from now on, all media embedded anywhere will also use the new player.

However, any media embedded before the upgrade will continue to use the old player.  These should continue to work for some time, but we urge media publishers to upgrade to the new player as soon as possible.

To use the new player, all you need to do is to delete the current link and re-embed by te same method you used.

This is the same whether you used the built-in tools in Canvas [(see this help document for details: [https://answers.uillinois.edu/illinois/114143]) or you grabbed the embed code from mediaspace (See this help document: [https://answers.uillinois.edu/illinois/60619]) and inserted it into the HTML of a Webpage in Canvas or elsewhere.

Player 2 is not going anywhere, so your embedded videos will continue to play for some time, but you will will want to update the embeds to have the current look and feel and to use a fully-supported browser.

Canvas users: are your new linked videos still using the old player?

Any links added to Canvas courses with the built-in tools should play in the current player.  We have received a small number of reports of users whose newly-created links play on the old player (Player 2).  This is rare, but if you find this is happening, there are fixes for your Canvas account.
First, when you click on the Kaltura button and view your My Media, there is a gear icon next to each Embed button with the tool tip "Embed Settings."  Click on that, make sure to choose "Default BSE" and make a change, such as to Max Embed Size. Save your changes. This should reset your account preferences.
If this does not work, you can remove the "Kaltura Scoped Key" as an "approved integration in your Canvas settings:  1) log into Canvas; 2) select  your account (upper-left under the block-I; 3) select Settings; 4) scroll down to Approved Integrations; 5) find the Kaltura Scoped Key; 6) select the trash can; 7) approve the action.
