CII Technical FAQ
Why is This Device Attributed to My Unit?
See the Axonius, Asset Attribution KB article. If the device does not belong to your IT unit, tag the device with “Unit Tag Needs Review” and the CII Data team will review the record.
Why is My [Printer/NAS/Router/Toaster] Showing as Non-Compliant?
These devices are often either vendor-managed or physically incapable of having CrowdStrike and/or Endpoint Management tools installed. If this is the case, tag the device with the “IoT Device” tag. This will resolve the device from showing as non-compliant.
When Will the Changes to My Devices Show Up?
If the changes in question involve the addition of device information (e.g. a CrowdStrike Falcon agent was installed), then that information will be updated within 24 hours.
If the changes in question involve the removal of device information, e.g. a device has been decommissioned, then that depends on the adapter(s) the device has. For a complete list of the age-out rules for Axonius adapters, see the Axonius, Adapters KB article. A device must be removed from every adapter in order for it to no longer show in Axonius.
Why is the Qualys/Discover Adapter Showing an Old Hostname/Domain Name/OS?
Qualys and Discover do not always update asset data when a device gets renamed or reimaged, and so the record might show old data. This can cause issues with unit device attribution and also whether a device is marked as CII Complete. If this is the case, email securitysupport@illinois.edu with a request to purge the device from Qualys or Discover. Please include the IP address and hostname of said device in the request.
Why are There Duplicate Device Records for the Same Device?
There are duplicate device entries in Axonius representing the same asset. One entry may show only a single adapter (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory), while another includes additional adapters. This often occurs when a record has minimal information and so Axonius does not have enough data to correlate the records together. To resolve this, link the two devices as shown in the picture below. This will merge the two records.
