Skype for Business, Graduate Students
This page answers questions about Unified Communications for graduate and professional students.
UC Services for Graduate Students
All Graduate and Professional Students will qualify for both a Microsoft Exchange account for email and a Microsoft Skype for Business account for communication. Features on the account can vary depending on department, not all accounts offer the same features.
Check your account using MyUC
Visit http://uc.illinois.edu/MyUC to check your eligibility for and / or status of your account.
Microsoft Exchange
A Microsoft Exchange account is required to use campus email and other Unified Communications services.
Mailboxes are automatically setup when you are hired as a graduate student and this status is reflected on your account.
Note: If you received a Google mail account as an undergraduate student here, you will have to request your Exchange/Outlook account, this change will interrupt delivery of email to your Google account. Please email consult@illinois.edu to request this change.
Skype for Business with Enterprise Voice
Only Professional Students and Graduate Students with Appointments will receive accounts with Enterprise Voice. Enterprise Voice assigns an actual phone number to your account and gives you the ability to call public phone numbers. Enterprise Voice also adds voicemail capabilities to your account.
In order to get Enterprise Voice, your department must request this through your Pinnacle Department Manager.
Skype for Business without Enterprise Voice
***New Skype accounts without Enterprise Voice will not be offered after June 2, 2023 due to the Teams migration. Users should use the Teams application, which already allows this functionality.***
Graduate students without Enterprise Voice will not be able to make or receive calls to public telephone numbers (PSTN).
Skype for Business accounts for Graduate and Professional students are automatically enabled the week before Fall and Spring instructions begin. If your account did not reflect your status at that time it might not have been enabled (check the status with link above), contact the Help-Desk (consult@illinois.edu) and we can help you with the setup.
