Getting Started with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Here are some links to get you started with AWS.

If you're getting started with AWS:

  • AWS Educate: You can explore self-paced course topics about AWS for free. https://aws.amazon.com/education/awseducate/
  • AWS Free Tier: https://aws.amazon.com/free/. AWS Free Tier is a way to create an account and use some of the AWS resources for free. Since this account is outside of the Enterprise support that the University receives, you won't have access to AWS support.
  • AWS Lunch & Learn: We have monthly meetings where different AWS topics are discussed by the AWS UIUC team and users of AWS. To get on the mailing list, send an email with SUBSCRIBE in the title to lunchandlearn@lists.illinois.edu. Recordings of past presentations are available at AWS Lunch & Learn.

If you want to ask someone about AWS:

  • AWS Office Hours: You can schedule an office hours session where Tech Services Cloud Enablement and other AWS team members can help answer your questions, https://go.illinois.edu/awsofficehours. This service is free.
  • Tech Services Cloud Team: You can submit a ticket to the Cloud team at aws-support@illinois.edu
  • AWS UIUC Team at Amazon: You can contact the dedicated AWS Team who are assigned to support UIUC at aws-uiuc-team@amazon.com. The AWS UIUC Team services are free.
  • AWS Support Ticket: You can open a support ticket from your AWS account using the Support Center link in the question mark menu (?) at the top of the AWS console page. UIUC has Enterprise Level support so the Support Center tickets will be addressed by expert AWS team members. This service is free but is only available on AWS accounts created within the University environment.
