Canvas@Illinois, Enable and Access the Multi Tool

This article provides instructions on how the Multi Tool can be enabled in Canvas courses.

Overview

The Multi Tool helps you quickly and efficiently set up and organize a Canvas course site. It is disabled by default but can quickly be turned on in each of your courses.

How To Enable the Multi Tool

  1. On the Course Navigation Menu, select Settings.
  2. On the Settings page, select the Navigation tab.
  3. On the Navigation tab, drag the Multi-Tool item to the list of available items or select the 3 dots option menu next to Multi-Tool and select the + Enable option.
  4. Select the Save button at the bottom of the screen.

Once enabled, the Multi-Tool will be accessible from your Course Navigation Menu. Please note that although this displays in your Course Navigation Menu as the instructor/TA, it will not be visible to students.

Authorize Access to the Multi Tool

After you have added the Multi-Tool to your course navigation menu, you can launch it by clicking on the Multi-Tool item. The first time that you use it in any of your courses, the Multi-Tool prompts you to authorize access to your account. Once you have authorized it, you can use the Multi-Tool in any of your courses. Please note, however, you will still need to add it to the navigation menu in each individual course.
